Testimonials......

My husband came for a wedding at the Maxwell Ranch and this cabin was perfect! It is so peaceful and quiet and there are beautiful walks right out the door. We would stay again and probably will! Thank you!

I came here at the request of my husband’s spirit, who recently passed very unexpectedly. He came to grad school in Fort Collins about eight years ago and loved Colorado for the nature, trout fishing and Peace. He died in Oregon, but Colorado was where he truly wished to be. His spirit walked with me here in this special Sky Kiva. The views and rocks are amazing and soothed me. Being from LA, this was also a very welcome respite. I was born in Wisconsin, so this - the Midwest and the Heart of the Country - does indeed feel like Home! Thank you so much, ALOHA! (A hummer came to the window twice this morning, so I refilled the feeder with sugar H2O!)

We had a very pleasant week long stay, and liked the isolated location of the cabin. We learned some things that may be useful to future renters:
  1. There’s a laundromat at the RV campground on 14 west of the Visitor Center
  2. Even though it looks like it on all the maps, Red Feather Lakes Road does not turn into Deadman Road. It twins into the road through Crystal Lake, which then loops back to Prairie Divide Road and the cabin
  3. Deadman Road is a sharp left after the Pot Belly Bar
  4. The dirt road on the left directly across from the Pot Belly cuts down to 14. We did lots of hiking, and are leaving behind a map and a trail guide. Mt. Margaret was a disappointment - not much of a view. Blue Lake off of 14 was spectacular! We also hiked Montgomery Pass and Roaring Creek.

Thank you for sharing your little bit of heaven with us. We come from a small farming community and live in the country surrounded by farm fields, so our intention was not to get away from the rat race. What we found was a gorgeous view every morning and then again after a long day of hiking. A corn field can never compete with the mountains covered in pine trees and I wish one could bottle the fresh smell of mountain air. We especially like eating outside on the deck. You gave us all the comforts of home, and then some, in your cabin. Thanks again!!

This place is perfect for a relaxing chill-out spot to get away from it all. On our first afternoon, it rained hard but then the sun came out, as did the chipmunks, rabbits, deer, bluebirds and hummingbirds - only Snow White was missing! Saw all sorts, just sat on the porch, including a badger, and deer by the rocks to the side. Really great place, the only thing we’d have appreciated (as Brits) would have been a wildlife guide and a map of the area. And a kettle for making a pot of tea!! Very friendly people. Beautiful place, the Wild West U.S of A. at its best! Loved it.

As people have said before, the “Bird’s Nest” is a place to rest your soul. Escaping from the hustle and bustle of life on the front range, it was nice to slow down for the weekend. Celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary, we had a wine and cheese picnic on the porch. The classical meditation CDs that were provided made it a magical experience! We felt like we were transported to Tuscany. We took a drive north lookin’ for fishing holes and ended up on a 4-wheel adventure. Little piece of advice, don’t trust a map that’s 8 years old. Eventually, we found Creedmore Lakes with no luck on a catch. The stars are absolutely amazing up here. The chairs on the porch were perfect for star gazing. Thanks for the wonderful weekend and we’ll definitely be back to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. Cheers!

Enjoyed another restful long weekend hiking - biking and reading. A welcome respite from busy lives. Thanks again.

My wife and I stayed at one of your cabins last year for our Anniversary.    The cabin we stayed in was the Bird’s Nest.  I’m writing a series of posts on our favorite mountain getaways and your Bird’s Nest cabin is on that list. http://www.thedatinghusband.com/2012/03/secluded-romantic-mountain-cabin.html.
We hope to visit it again someday.

Another wonderful adventure. The weather was perfect for fishing on Saturday. I caught a 21-inch trout at Parvin Lake. Don caught it’s “mini-me” - a 14-incher. Sunday we hiked to Mt. Margaret. Did you know you can see Bird’s Nest from the summit? So cool. You better bring binoculars tho. We are leaving today and Bird’s Nest is having it’s first snow of the season. Absolutely beautiful and so tranquil - a perfect little piece of heaven. Hope to be back next year!

We enjoyed our stay at Bird’s Nest. It is the perfect place to get away from our busy lives. Loved the fact that there was no TV or Internet!!! Really got to relax, talk, read, eat and star gaze. Thank you for such a peaceful and lovely cabin. We hope to be able to come again.

We absolutely loved our time at Bird’s Nest. What a retreat! You did an amazing job with the renovation. My jaw hit the floor as soon as we walked in. I wish we had more time here, and we’ll definitely be back. We are off to Parvin Lake for one last round of fishing before heading home. I hope they bite this time! We’ll miss it here.

Flying on a whim and letting fate guide us here, we never would have expected such peace. The city, responsibilities, and expectations washed right off. The views are amazing; the hiking wonderful; the people the most polite around. Our only regret is leaving so soon. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We enjoyed our stay here at the Bird's Nest.  It was peaceful and quite and rest for our souls.  Thank you for sharing.  We have busy lives and the quiet and time together was a delight.

Your retreat cabin is inspiring, relaxing and met all our needs (music, beauty & a touch of wine), very restful.

I'd say "What a dream come true!" but the Bird's Nest is actually so much more than we could have dreamed.
